This year has seen the release of thousands of Mixtapes onto the underground circuit from a number of upcoming and already established Hip-Hop artists.

With the end of the year now fastly approaching, MTV has announced it’s 2008 Mixtape Monday Awards Winners with the biggest award going to 50 Cent and G-Unit.

Fiddy & the Unit picked up the Mixtape Act Of The Year award with their Return of the Body Snatchers and Elephant in the sand mixtapes being noted as two of the standout street CDs of ‘08.

DJ Drama and DJ Green Lantern have been responsible for mixing and hosting mixtapes for artists such as Royce Da 5′9″, Lil Wayne and Nas this year and they jointly recieved the Mixtape DJ of the year award.

Green Lantern was also recognized for his radio hosting skills along with G-Unit’s DJ Whoo Kid and they both won the Radio and/or Satellite DJ of the Year award.

Queensbridge rapper Nas was selected as Lyricist of the Year and the Producer of the Year award went to Chi-Town’s Kanye West.

Other artists to have their mixtapes mentioned as standout releases in 2008 include Lil Wayne, Crooked I, The Clipse and Nippey Hussle.
