When Kanye West’s latest album 808s and Heartbreaks was released, there was a very mixed reception from fans and critics.

The album was a big change in direction for Kanye as it was entirely composed of tracks with him singing and using auto-tune.

Little Brother member Phonte recently revealed his thoughts about the album during a Conspiracy Worldwide Radio podcast and he didn’t hold back.

“I heard pretty much most of the Kanye album,” Phonte said. “And i didn’t like it, I was just like ‘Get the fuck outta here’”

According to Phonte, he believes that the album was actually an act of cowardice.

“I realise that there is an audience for it and people that like that type of thing, but i personally didn’t like the album,” Phonte added. “I personally thought it was an act of cowardice.”

Phonte appeared to have a special dislike for the fact that Kanye had made the decision to use Auto-Tune to enhance his singing.

“I think if you’re gonna make the creative leap to sing, then really sing. Let your voice come out, and let people hear all the eccentricities and all the little idiosyncrasies in your voice because that’s what makes you uniquely you.”

He further explained his dislike for Auto-Tune by imagining how Aretha Franklin’s Respect would have sounded had she used the technology.

“Imagine if Aretha Franklin used Auto-Tune on ‘Respect,’ it’s like, all of the soul…and all of the actual emotion would have been gone.”

Finally, Phonte added that he felt Kanye West had stolen his style from T-Pain and had failed to achieve what he had set out to do with 808s and Heartbreaks.

“I heard it and i was like….this nigga’s just biting T-Pain, I could see him really wanting to do more but to me it was a case of the reach extending the grasp.” he said. “It was like [Kanye] really wanted to go through more but [he] just didn’t have the time to do that shit.”
