Lauryn Hill and Kanye West are two of a number of Hip-Hop artists that feature in Entertainment Weekly’s list of ‘New Classics’.
The former Fugees member Lauryn Hill, snatched second place out of the 100 albums in the list with her debut solo album ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’ coming in just behind Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ which got the #1 position.
Kanye West’s ‘College Dropout’ album grabbed the number four spot ahead of ‘Big Brother’ Jay-Z’s ‘The Blueprint’ album which was awarded the seventh place.
Just coming short of the top ten, Outkast were awarded 12th place for ‘Stankonia’ while Eminem’s controversial ‘Marshall Mathers LP’ came in at number 15.
The debut album from A Tribe Called Quest, ‘People’s Instinctive Travels & the Paths of Rhythm’ also featured in the list at number 18, followed closely by De La Soul’s ‘3 Feet High and Rising’ at 22.
Elsewhere on the list Nas’s ‘Illmatic’ came in at 28, Run-DMC’s ‘Raising Hell’ is at thirty-eight while The Notorious B.I.G.’s debut album ‘Ready to Die’ was awarded the 40th position.
At number 42 is Wu-Tang Clan’s ‘Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)’, and right behind at 43 is Beastie Boys’ ‘Paul’s Boutique’ and The Fugees’ ‘The Score’ at fifty one.
Further down, Public Enemy’s ‘It Takes a Nation of Millions…’ is at 55, Eric B & Rakim’s ‘Paid in Full’ is at sixty-one, Dr. Dre’s ‘The Chronic’ is at sixty-six, 2Pac’s ‘All Eyez on Me’ got the 87th position and ‘Trap Muzik’ by T.I. just made the list at 95.
