Rapper Nas has generated yet more controversy for his new album after he walked down the red carpet at this years 50th annual grammy awards sporting a jet black t-shirt with the word “n*****” boldly printed on the front.
The rappers wife, singer Kelis, and a number of other women wearing similar attire accompanied the rapper who was Grammy nominated for Best Rap Album for his controversial Hip-Hop is Dead (The award however went to label mate Kanye West). His forthcoming album has also caused controvesy after Nas announced that it was to be titled “N*****”, sparking many calls for Def Jam to drop the artist or force him to change the album’s title. After contradicting reports surrounding the labels decision Def Jam have now stuck by Nas’ decision.
Nas explained his choice of clothing to a CNN correspondent. “Its all the experiences we go through every day, of all ethnicities, Black, White, indifferent.” he said, “We’ve all at some point felt discriminated on, whether its in Dominican Republic, whether its in China, whether its in Iraq with soldiers getting their heads blown off for reasons we don’t know why,” adding “The meaning of the word is supposed to be ignorant.”
“So no longer are Black people still n****rs, its also me and you,” he said to the White CNN reporter. “I want people to think about what I’m thinking about today.”
